According to a Reddit post, in-laws were targeted by a ransom scam using an AI deepfake of their daughter's voice, claiming she was in danger. The scam was interrupted when the targets suggested calling 911, and no ransom was paid.

A Reddit user reported that their in-laws received a call from an unknown number. The voice on the call, identified as their daughter's, was crying and claimed she was home alone with someone trying to break in. When the in-laws told the caller to hang up and call 911, the call disconnected. They then contacted their daughter directly, who confirmed she was fine. The user speculated that the mention of 911 caused the scammers to end the call prematurely.
