According to reports, OpenAI disrupted a coordinated network of ChatGPT accounts linked to a scam operation in Poipet, Cambodia. The group allegedly leveraged ChatGPT to generate convincing scripts, fake profiles, and phishing messages for various fraud types, including investment fraud, romance scams, gambling lures, and law enforcement impersonation. This use of AI-generated content reportedly reduced the manual effort for crafting social engineering lures. OpenAI banned a cluster of accounts associated with the Poipet region.
