Scammers reportedly clone Florida sheriff's voice for jury duty scam
Police in Florida claim scammers used AI to clone Osceola County Sheriff Steve Moser's voice and picture to leave a voicemail with a resident, attempting a jury duty or arrest warrant scam.
According to Florida police, scammers reportedly cloned the voice of Osceola County Sheriff Steve Moser and used his picture to impersonate him in a voicemail left with a resident. Sheriff Chris Blackmon told News6 that "They cloned his voice and was using Steve’s picture as well to say it was him making the phone call, and it was not." The scam involved claims of missed jury duty or an outstanding arrest warrant. Impersonating a police officer is a third-degree felony in Florida. Similar scams targeting people with jury duty and arrest warrant claims have been reported in Georgia and Pennsylvania, though those reports did not explicitly mention AI voice cloning.
