According to Baton Rouge police, 55-year-old Bennet Gauthreaux of Pierre Part allegedly used an online website and artificial intelligence to create nude images and a sexually explicit deepfake video involving a female co-worker. The victim told investigators that Gauthreaux showed her the images and videos, one of which allegedly depicted Gauthreaux and the woman having sex. The woman stated that the sexual activity never occurred and she never gave permission for such content to be created. Investigators reported that Gauthreaux later attempted to delete the content from his phone and online storage. He faces charges under Louisiana's unlawful deepfakes law, which makes it a crime to knowingly share, show, or distribute sexually explicit deepfake content of another person without consent. The case has raised concerns among lawmakers regarding the challenges of updating legislation to keep pace with evolving AI technology.
